On May 26, 2005, the World Trade Organization confirmed the appointment of Pascal Lamy to the position of Director-General.

Lamy is a seasoned globalist with both public and private service. From 1999 to 2004, he was the European Commissioner for Trade, which is roughly equivalent to the U.S. position of Foreign Trade Representative. He was succeeded by Peter Mandelson, a member of the Trilateral Commission.

Prior to that, Lamy was second in command at Credit Lyonnais, a French bank. The bank was aquired by Credit Agricole in 2003, and is now part of the largest banking group in France, and is the fourth largest in the world.

In December of 2004, Lamy became President of Notre Europe, a leading French-based think-tank focused on European economic integration. He also serves on the board of directors with Jean-Louis Bourlanges, a member of the Trilateral Commission.

One can expect that Lamy will continue to push the policies of the New International Economic Order as envisioned by members of the Trilateral Commission.
